After an extensive and thorough diagnostic evaluation, we will discuss the utility of medications in the treatment plan. Our goal is to use as few medications as possible at the lowest dose necessary. We want to optimize you feeling better without causing unwanted side effects or poly-pharmacy.
Specifically for our patients with addiction, we offer Medicated-Assisted Treatment (MAT). MAT is the use of FDA-approved medications, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies, to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders. MAT is available for the following substances: alcohol, opioids, cocaine, and tobacco.
For Alcohol Use Disorder, we offer the following MAT options:
- Naltrexone – oral medication taken once daily
- XR-naltrexone (brand name Vivitrol) – intramuscular injection given monthly
