Sidra Ghafoor, MD

Dr. Ghafoor believes that healing begins at the level of mind, body and spirit, integrating a patient’s whole life experience into the treatment plan. She provides comprehensive treatment options combining psychopharmacology and psychotherapeutic modalities. Dr. Ghafoor specializes in addictions, eating disorders, and women’s mental health in addition to treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychotic disorders. She is trained in a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches including interpersonal therapy, gestalt therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and motivational enhancement therapy. Working with her you will develop insight into yourself and begin to effect change and make progress in the problem areas of your life.

Dr. Ghafoor completed an accelerated 7-year B.S./M.D. program at Villanova University and Drexel University College of Medicine. During her Psychiatry residency training at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ she served as the Chief Resident and as an active member of the House Staff Council. After residency, she specialized her training with a one-year clinical fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. She now serves as the Assistant Medical Director for the Drug & Alcohol Division at The Wedge Recovery Centers in Philadelphia PA. 

In addition to her professional engagements, Dr. Ghafoor is the co-founder and current president of Fitness in Recovery – a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the Philadelphia-area that utilizes specifically designed movement sequencing as dosed-exercise to provide hedonic rehabilitation and accelerate systemic addiction & mental health recovery. Fitness in Recovery is a past recipient of the Penn Medicine CAREs grant and is being featured in Penn Medicine’s 2020 Annual Community Benefit Report. Dr. Ghafoor has presented nationally on the value of integrating holistic treatment in addiction recovery.
