Jacob Miller believes that meaningful change begins with a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. His warm and encouraging style helps clients connect with and cultivate the person they aspire to be.
Jacob’s therapeutic approach is informed by his academic background in neuroscience and philosophy at Muhlenberg College, with concentrations in phenomenology and Confucianism. After graduation, Jacob worked as a research assistant at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, focusing on smoking cessation, patient stigmatization, and the doctor-patient relationship. During this time, he realized his passion lay in working directly with people to improve their lives, rather than in a backend research capacity.
Following his work at Sloan Kettering, Jacob participated in a two-year fellowship at The Dr. David Robinson Institute for Jewish Heritage in Jerusalem, where he studied Jewish ethics, Jewish philosophy, and Talmud. This experience helped him refine his career direction and deepen his understanding of diverse perspectives on healing and personal growth.
He later completed his master’s in counseling psychology at Temple University. Which focused on Rogerian techniques of empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard.
Drawing on a wide array of personal and academic experiences, Jacob tailors evidence-based therapeutic experiences to each client. He guides clients to realize their agency, resilience, and inner strength, viewing heroism in both major achievements and everyday acts of courage.
Jacob employs multiple evidence-based frameworks to support clients in activating three core capacities:
- Strengthening personal agency: Helping clients recognize and exercise true choice, cultivate a sense of control, and break patterns that leave them feeling stuck.
- Developing authentic self-compassion: Helping clients gain a better understanding of when they need to give themselves a break and when they need to push forward.
- Building a growth-centered mindset: Rather than viewing themselves as simply “good” or “bad” based on outcomes, clients learn to appreciate the ongoing process of personal growth. This approach encourages individuals to take pride in refining their skills and attitudes, recognizing progress in various situations rather than focusing solely on end results.
Jacob Miller works with individuals seeking greater clarity, confidence, and emotional resilience. Whether meeting a therapist for the first time or returning after a break, he strives to create an environment where clients feel supported, empowered, and motivated toward meaningful change.
